The best we could find on a short notice - and was happy about
Very clean hotel! We've looked for an emergency replacement hotel after hitting cleanness problems with the previous one, and after the long night of search we've found Starhotels Michelangelo -- and wasn't disappointed. Clean bedroom, clean bathroom, no odd smells in the rooms. Comfortable large bed; shower amenities provided. Coffee machine and tea pot in the suite was convenient. In our room the curtains did not fully blocked the sun, but we asked the help form the reception and facilities team came and reattached curtains another way so they were almost fully blocking the sun out, so we were able to have a good sleep. The ventilation system able to refresh the air over night: we had two periods, at first when we almost unable to feel the air it kept about CO2 about 1200ppm, and few days later (as it get cooler outside) the ventilation started to work stronger and kept about 850ppm over night, so we could sleep without need to open windows. The location is near vatican and in 5 minutes from train station, so it is easy to get from and to the airport (FCO at least). The sweets on breakfast was awesome. The rest of the breakfast... Not so.
The on-site restaurant really disappointed us. The breakfast: - on the tables there are old (and on some -- dirty) cardboard ad mentioning having lactose-free milk and yoghurt, In the reality, there was no lactose-free yoghurt, we've just get one from the nearby supermarket; - the coffee available is "americano" which tastes like real americano (i.e. drop-filtered, tasteless and odourless); - you can ask for the Italian-style coffee from the staff, they bring one, and it is much better, but I haven't found the exact way to ask to make it to the liking, maybe others will be luckier; - things sometimes run out when it still hour till end of breakfast: eggs, croissants, milk, tea, tea spoons, yoghurts... sometimes warming burners run out of gas and food get cold -- you need to ask to fix and wait... :( We've tried also room order from the restaurants and that wasn't good either: - even in the suite there is no real space to place food onto; we've ended up brining the night table for that; - the food doesn't seems to be freshly cooked, more like heated frozen (they do mark it as a frozen product in menu); - they even can run out of the options in the menu! - and the same dish (meatballs with mushroom sauce) was completely different two different days with different amount of sauce. Basically, it may have more sense to use few places around within 2 walking minutes for the breakfast for the better options, and definitely better dinner.
